SUBVERSION IN ASIA
Warning To S.E.A.T.O. (N.Z. Press Association —Copyright) BAGUIO CITY, Philippines, November 26. Communist subversion in Southeast Asia presented the main threat to the South-East Asian Treaty Organisation nations, the acting S.E.A.T.O. Secretary-Gen-eral, Mr William Worth, of Australia, said today. Mr Worth told a S.E.A.T.O. seminar that the eight-nation alliance had increased its overall capacity to resist armed aggression in the treaty area. However, he warned, the danger of subversion still confronted governments throughout the treaty area. “Consequently the appropriate authorities in all member governments are maintaining an increasingly effective surveillance over Communist activities,” Mr Worth said. The newly-elected president of the Philippines, Mr Carlos Garcia. pledged that the Philippines would not felax its vigilance. “The Philippines Republic shall continue to be dedicated to a vigorous and uncompromising stand against the insidious ideology of communism,” Mr Garcia said.
