DEMONSTRATION OF TRACTOR
New Earthmoving Equipment More than 70 people watched a demonstration of a versatile new type of earth-shifting equipment on a private property at Redcliffs J estei S? y j The equipment, which was fitted to a crawler tractor, was demonstrated by Mr R. Meikle, an American who has been showing the capabilities of the new machinery in Australia and New Zealand. The main feature of the equipment, which was designed and built in America, was the demonstration of a four-in-one bucket, which combined the features of clamshell, dozer, bucket and bullcia™ fitbngs. Mr Meikle showed all the equipment’s features, with earth-shifting, pushing down trees and ground clearing. At one stage, he almost buried the tractor, and dug himself out with the aid of the machinery. The fittings, which were designed by an American logging expert, incorporate a new feature m the hydraulic system. This is a hydro-spring, an enormous coiled steel spring which absorbs any sudden shock load. Teams from the manufacturers, Drott, Limited, are touring the world demonstrating the new equipment, some of which is already in use in New Zealand. A tractor fitted with a dropshovel incorporating the new features is in use at present on the Lyttelton Harbour extensions. Thieves Take £3O Thieves stole £3O when they forced a rear door into doctors’ premises at 211 Gloucester street some time during Tuesday night. The thieves forced the door and entered the rooms of three doctors which are in the converted house. The rooms are occupied by Drs. E. R. Blakely, C. G. Anderson, and F. G. T. Beetham.
