Ship’s Bell Given School

(New Zealand Press Association) NELSON. November 27. The ship’s bell of th= steamer Mataroa was presented to the Waimea College this afternoon by a representative of the Shaw Savill and Albion Shipping Company, Mr M. C. Barnett. The company owned the vessel until it was disposed of recently for breaking up. The Mataroa was on the New Zealand-England run for many years. The bell comes to Waimea College as the result of a letter written by a pupil of the college, Dianne Johnston, to the Shaw Savill Company. She said that the college had no items of historic interest and suggested that the company might like to start .such a display with the Mataroa’s bell.
