Mrs F. B. Campbell wag presented with a gift at a committee meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Navy League. Mrs Campbell has been treasurer of the committee for the last two years, and Mrs G. G. Simpson has now been appointed to the position.

“Africa Today” was the title of an address given by Mrs A. Pocock at a nieeting of the Royal Empire Society, held last evening at Elizabeth House. The guests were received by the secretary (Mr H. H. P. Ballantyne) and Mrs S. Goulden. The chairman was Major-General G. B. Parkinson. The chief of the MacLeod Clan. Dame Flora MacLeod, will visit Napier and district from next Tuesday until the following Friday. She has earmarked part of her time for a visit to the East Coast Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, Ltd., at Awatptp. She is keenly interested in the industry, which she hopes to encourage in the Highlands. Dame Flora MacLeod will travel to Taupo and Rotorua after visiting Napier.— (P.A.)

The Christchurch Combined Plunket Mothers’ Clubs held a Christmas Party last evening in the Caledonian Hall, which was attended by about 400 members and their friends from 30 clubs Specially invited guests were the Mayoress of Christchurch (Mrs R M. Macfarlane), the patron (Mrs Cecil Wood), the president of the Plunket Society (Mrs " Arthur Rose) and members of the executive, the Charge Sister of the Plunket Society (Miss B. Helliwell), and the secretary of the Society (Miss L. Scott). A programme was presented by members from Belfast, Woodend Addington, Fendalton. Spreydon. Opawa and Marshland Plunket Mothers’ Clubs, and Mrs Marjorie Marshall (vocal solos). All items were the original work of members and showed ingenuity and a keen sense of humour. The committee responsible for the entertainment included the following: the president, who presided (Mrs E. M. Harris), the secretary (Mrs M. Wilson), and Mesdames E. Jacobsen, L. . Edmonds, M. MeLaughlan, M. N. Taylor, and P. Hunter.

Sister Zelda Greenslade, formerly of Christchurch and now matron of the Melanesian Mission Hospital, Lolowai r New Hebrides, is appealing for a kerosene refrigerator for use at the hospital and leper colony. The cost will be about £2OO. The refrigerator is urgently needed for storing medicines as well as foodstuffs. Any person who wishes to make a Christmas offering towards the cost should send donations to the Ven. S. E. Woods. St. Saviour’s Vicarage, Sydenham, or the secretary, Melanesian Mission, Church House, 173 Cashel street.

Miss M. C. Lili has resigned as dietitian at the Burwood Hospital. She will leave the hospital on January 18, and then make a visit to England.

The sum of £63 was raised when the members of the Hospital Lady Visitors’ Association held their annual sale of work vesterday morning. There were three stalls, for cakes, work, and flowers and plants, staffed by members at the hospital. The money will be used for the general purposes of the association.

Two new members were welcomed by the chairman (Mrs R Grimshaw) at the November meeting of the Kaiapoi Plunket Mothers* Club. Mrs R. Hunter gave a talk on cuts of meat.
