MEN’S HARDCOURT COMPETITION

Series To Begin Next Month

To provide some extra competition for senior players, the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association will this season conduct an extra series for men on the hard courts at Wilding Park. Entries were called for such a competition some time ago in response to an appeal by delegates at the annual meeting and the following teams will take part on the Saturday’s alternate to the men’s grass court competition— University, Avonside, Opawa, North Linwood, and United. Players will come mainly from senior and senior reserve grades except in the United team, which will include several younger players. Although a date has not yet been fixed for the start of this competition, it will probably begin on December 7, which will allow two days’ play before the Christmas break.

Entries were also called for a women’s hardcourt competition to be played on alternate days to the women’s grass court competition, but only three clubs—University, Avonside, and Shirley—were interested, so such a competition was not thought worthwhile.
