Paparua Water Supply
Sir,—Practically every week-end we on the tail end of the Paparua water supply system in Vicki street suffer a shortage of water or lack of water. To make tea my wife has melted the ice cubes from the refrigerator. Doing vegetables in a cup of water is no joke. We are charged £6 10s in rates to pay for the privilege. What would the situation be in the event of a house fire? Could we charge a sewerage blockage to the supplier—if such happened—because of its failure to notify of a cut-off? What will happen with the joining of new factories and a school? Evidently the supply source, or machinery, is inadequate. On November 9. water was off from 10.30 a.m. and came dribbling back after 7 p.m. Today, I can stop the water by holding my finger under the tap. At 6.30 p.m. the water was off.—Yours, etc., G. R. KENNINGTON 29 Vicki street.
[“lt is correct that there have been shortages of water in the system on a number of recem occasions.” said the Paparua County Clerk (Mr A. Kelly). “The council sympathises with those who have undoubtedly suffered considerable inconvenience and is doing all it can to improve the present situation. Considerable improvement, fortunately, can be expected as soon as tht new pumping station at Auburn avenue is in operation early in the new year.”]
