DAME FLORA MacLEOD
Overseas League Guest
“If new settlers could be taken into private homes for a few days after their arrival, many of their difficulties would be overcome,” said Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod, speaking to about 110 members of the Overseas League at a luncheon held in her honour yesterday. Dame Flora MacLeod, who is the first woman to be chief of anv Scottish clan, said that she would like to know if any among the 12 schoolboys whom the Overseas League was sending to Britain in 1958 were of her clan. She would be happy to offer her hospitality at Dunvegan Castle, in the Isle of Skye, to all of the boys who were forming the party. Welcoming Dame Flora MacLeod, the president (Mr A. I. Cottrell) said the league spread its web widely over the world and the Christchurch branch was proud to welcome a member so distinguished as Dame Flora MacLeod, who had done, perhaps, more than any other woman to cement the bonds which held the English-speaking peoples together. Dame Flora MacLeod wore a black costume relieved by a geranium red blouse which matched the ostrich plume worn across the front of her small, close-fitting black hat. Mr and Mrs Cottrell were host and hostess, assisted by the vicepresident (Mrs J. J. Mulligan) and Mr and Mrs W. S. MacGibbon. Dame Flora MacLeod's host and hostess in Christchurch.
