New Premises Ready
Next Year
“After living in rented premises all its life, the Canterbury Women's Club has ventured out and bought a property of its own at 190 Worcester street.” said the report presented at the fortyfourth annual meeting of the Canterbury Women’s Club, last evening.
Plans and specifications for a new lounge, which will be built at the back of the existing house are almost complete. The club expects to occupv the new premises next year. Most of the cost has already been met. the report said.
“Reference to the new premises would be incomplete without some special mention of the amount of work done and the amazing energy displayed by members in raising funds, since the purchase was first contemplated.” the report says. “This, together with the generous response of members and their friends, has produced the very satisfactory totals now recorded and these, we believe must surpass the highest expectation of even the most optimistic.” Reviews of the year’s work done by circles were shown in the report Mesdames L. Barton and G. H Watts were made life members of the club. The other life member is Mrs R. J. McLaren.
Officers elected were, president. Mrs W. D. Bunt; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Allott, E. McNish, and H. P. Wise; secretary, Mrs L. E. Hollinsum: committee, Mesdames L. W. Ballan, H. B. Duckworth. H. Hamilton, R. Redpath. H. Reeve and R. H. Sherris. Mrs W. D. Bunt presided.
