Vice-Regal The Governor-General (Viscount Cobham) attended the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting l Club’s cup meeting at Addington yesterday. Lady Cobham attended a Canterbury Women’s Club reception in the morning. Today their Excellencies will visit the Cashmere High School at 10 a.m. The Governor-General 'will officially open the Canter- . bury Officers’ Club at 11.15 a.m., I while Lady Cobham visits the I Lady King Karitane Hospital at 'll a.m. The Mayor and Mayoress | (Mr and Mrs R- M. Macfarlane) iand the Bishop of Christchurch I f the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) and ' Mrs Warnen, and Miss Ngaio ! Marsh will be the guests of their Excellencies for lunch. There are no official engagements in the 'afternoon but Viscount Cobham will dine at the Christchurch Club this evening. Commodore P. Phipps, R.N.Z.N., will arrive in Christchurch on Tuesday, November 26. and that evening will attend the annual • prize-giving ceremony of the Canterbury Sea Cadets in H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus. Commodore Phipps will return to Wellington on November 27. Mr H. M. Collie, manager for New Zealand of the A.M.P. Society and president of the Insurance Institute of New Zealand, is visiting Christchurch. He is accompanied by Mrs Collie. ’ Mr Andrew Packard, lecturer in ; zoology at Auckland university. ’ has accepted a position as research lecturer in marine biology at the ■ University of Otago for one year. ■Mr Packard will take up his posi■!tion early next year after his return from Antarctica. — (P.A.)
