Observations By D.S.I.R.

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 7. The observation post organised by Mr A. H. Allan, radio physicist of the D.5.1.R., had checked the passage of the dog satellite tw’ice past Wellington this morning, said a mathematician, Mr J. E. Drummond, of the D.5.1.R., today. Checked by radio at 2.49 a.m. and 4.35 a.m., the satellite was behaving as predicted, he said. “Any variation in its times or course will show that the Russians have made an attempt to land the dog,” he said. “Mr Allan is keeping a careful watch at his observation post in case there is any marked change in the behaviour of the satellite.”
