Yachting BANKS PENINSULA CLUB

The Ranks Peninsula Cruising Club's season was officially opened on Saturday by Mr H. R. Lake. M.P

The president of the Canterbury Yachting Association (Mr W. H Beanland) said that during the war. the brains of the navy were made up of many yachtsmen.

"Along with other members on a selection committee, it was my ioh to choose men to take commissions in the Navy. Their qualifications were based on yachting experience gained at this club,” said Mr Beanland. Mr lan Treleavan. the club's commodore said that it was with great 'pride that members had met -»n the twenty-fifth anniversary'of the club's opening He said that it now had i a membershin of more than 200. I There were no races held by the club during the week-end. After the open ng. friends of members were taken on a cruise around the harbour. A social and dance was held on Saturday evening. Small Entries At Lyttelton There were few entries foe taces arranged by the Canterbury Yacht and Motor Boat Club at Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon. Races in the Z and I classes attracted only four entries each In the X class the only starter was Pinta (J. Morrison) and she sailed around the course in the company of the R class Horizon (C Papps) and Vonne (D. Eastmond) a skimmer from Charteris Bay.
