Thieves Steal Safe Containing £500
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 30.
' A heavy safe containing about | £5OO in cash and £263 in cheques 1 was stolen last night from the shop of Poddie Bakeries. Ltd.. i 247 Queen street. Onehunga. I Auckland. | The safe was removed from the bakehouse in one of the firm's lafge trucks, which was found abandoned this morning near the entrance to Waikaraka cemetery in Onehunga. The safe has not been found. The robbery was carried out between the time the doughman left the bakehouse at 7.30 pm. last night, after securely locking the premises, and 10.30 p.m., when the manager (Mr R. G. Cochran> and his staff of bakers arrived to begin work. The police believe the safe was transferred to another vehicle at the cemetery. The money taken was the firm's payroll.
