Church Anti Politics
Sir, —I am sorry that your correspondent. Wm. Heal, seems to consider that the meeting of St. Albans political candidates, called by the Ministers’ Fraternal for Thursday evening, is an “unwarrantable meddling” in P°i>tics by the churches. I regard it as an admirable opportunity for the candidates to indicate their personal principles and views. And the attitude toward important social and moral questions of one who is offering himself as a future legislator should be of concern to all thinking electors, especially Christians, whose frequent prayer is that God’s will “be done on
earth as it is in heaven.” The Christian voter is surely entitled to know where his future member stands regarding vital issues. The candidates’ meeting is not “meddling” in politics; it is the exercise of Christian influence in an open, democratic, non-partisan manner.—Yours, etc., PETER A. STEAD. October 29, 1957.
