External Affairs
Sir. —It is refreshing to read the wise remarks of the Minister of External Affairs at the Colombo Plan authorities’ conference last week. His optimistic appraisal is much more realistic than the British point of view. I am glad to see New Zealand taking a different line from England; it will help correct the impression India, I found, got after Suez—that we always blindly followed Britain. We have also a thoughtful contribution from Mr Craw at United 'Nations on nuclear warfare; and Mr Larkin has made some wise remarks about South Africa and our attitude there. External Affairs is to be congratulated at having men of such calibre. —Yours, etc., October 28. 1957.
