Opportunities Offered
' The church was now living in a new day in which challenging opportunities were being presented , and new openings for women’s work were being offered, said the Very Rev, J. M. McKenzie in an address at the annual meeting of the Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship yesterday.
Women’s organisations were working together for the common good in New Zealand and overseas.
Mr McKenzie opened the meeting with a short service.
Mrs E. C. Whitelaw. the guest speaker, gave a talk on the consultation of the World Co”ncii of Churches in the United States and discussed the Christian Ch”rch in Asian countries. When Christian principles and ways of life were introduced intr Asiatic life and governments they often created a strange state for the peoples, as their former habits and thinking had been mirh more simple. This brought manv problems for the governments in Asiatic countries, she said.
The convener of the life a work committee <Mrs F W Winton) spoke briefly on cooperation between men and women in fellowship work.
A report, read by Miss A. R Allan, showed that the Presbyterian Women’s Fellowship was now 13 years old with an aim to unite women of the church in fellowship, prayer and service Steadv progress had been achieved.
Changes were afoot in the life nf the church, said the report There was the question of church union, a stewardship campaign and a movement towards greater co-operation between men and women in church work.
The following officers were elected: —President. Mrs J Edgar-vice-presidents. Mrs J. Browne and Miss U. McLeod: secretary Mrs H. Harrison; minute secretary, Mrs A. Morrison; treasurer Mrs A. Skeates.
Mrs L. N. Cuming presided at the October meeting of the North! Canterbury Post and Telegraph Women’s Association. Mr B. Maclaughlan spok. on his travels in South America, illustrating hisj talk with coloured slides.
