TOO CLOSE BEHIND CAR
Driver Fined £lO (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 22. On a charge of travelling too closely’ behind another car on the Hutt road. Walter Hedley Huthnance, an import agent, of Lower Hutt, was fined £lO with costs and an endorsement of his driver’s licence, by Mr W. H. Carson. S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court today. A Transport Department traffic officer said that Huthnance was following 30ft behind another car while travelling at 45 miles an hour. Last week the department prosecuted several other motorists for the same offence, and they were fined £2 10s and warned that unless the practice was stopped the penalties would increase. It is understood that last week’s prosecutions were the first of their kind in the Dominion.
