Perlite
Sir.—-The article on Lyttelton perlite in Tuesday’s issue of your paper is most interesting. Is it possible to get the public interested in what perlite can do for Canterbury? The uses of perlite created a great interest al my exhibition. Frankly, it woulg pay the City Council to give a £30.000 subsidy over six years,, say £5OOO per annum, to cut the selling prices to its taxpayers.] Then if the Junior Chamber oi Commerce and otners were io bang the drum, we could cheapen the town hall, the new skyscrapers, and the old folks’ sale, sound, and fire-proof Hats bj< many millions of pounds in the next 20 years. Who will know the uses of perlite if they are not dramatised? —Yours, etc., L. C. WALKER. October 22, 1957.
