Government Wins Control (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) COLOMBO, October 21. The Ceylon ruling People’s United Front today gained effective control of the Senate (Upper House of Parliament). Since its election to power in April last year, the United Front has held control only of the House of Representatives. The Senate was held by the United National Party, which formed the previous Government. Ten vacancies caused by retirement were filled today—half by the House of Representatives and half by the Governor-General. The majority in the Senate is now held by the People’s United Front. Independents, and others v.’ho opposed the United National Party. A clear two-thirds majority for the Government is in sight next year, when there will be more retirements
