FOREST AND BIRD SOCIETY

Dr. Margaret Mayer gave an illustrated address on alpine plants of New Zealand at a recent meeting of the New Zealand Forest and Bird Protection Society. Descriptions and details of various plants found on the different strata of mountain and hillsides and how the plants adjusted their growing habits to suit the climatical and nutrient conditions on the graded altitudes of the slopes were given by Dr. Mayer. A series of slides of New Zealand forest-inhabiting birds and also sea and shore birds were also shown by the secretary (Mr I. A. Gray!, and comments were given by Professor L. W. McCaskill.
