WOMEN’S CRICKET Team To Play England

M. Rouse, captain of the Canterbury women’s cricket team to play the touring English side, and P. Blackler, another member of the Canterbury team, are former New Zealand representatives. Canterbury will play the English side at Hagley Oval on Saturday, November 9 and Monday, November 11. Rouse toured England with the New Zealand side in 1954 and also represented New Zealand in Australia last year. Blackler first played for New Zealand in 1938, toured England in 1954 and was the vicecaptain of the team which toured Australia last year. The Canterbury team has a new wicket-keeper, T. Biker. This is her first season as a representative wicket-keeper as this position was formerly held by U. Tini. Under the guidance of the two coaches. Misses M. Rouse and Blackler. the team has been practising since i August 21. The training was first carried out two nights a week at the King Edward Barracks but will now be held on a pitch at the Hagley Oval. New players m the Canterbury team arc E. Riordan. C. Moore and J. Rouse, a sister of M. Rouse. The Canterbury team is as fo*lows: M. Rouse (captain), P. Moore (vice-captain), T. Baker, O. Williams, E. Riordan. E. Dickson, R. Dickson, L. Bayliss, E. Woods, j. Rouse, C. Moore, and P. Blackler.
