600 Guests Attend “Ladies’ Night”
“Ladies’ night” was held by members of the Tin Hat Club at the Winter Garden last evening when the president (Mr D. W Russell) and Mrs Russell received about 600 guests. Mrs Russel] wore a short evening frock of grey and white patterned cotton made with a full skirt and worn with a beaver cape.
Professor L. W. McCaskill gave a talk with coloured slides entitled ‘‘lndonesia and You—What, you should know about 82.000.000 of your nearest neighbours.” A musical programme included items by the following:— The Tin Hat Club Orchestra, conducted by Mr G. Potter; Mr Graham Russell (pianoforte items); the Stavemasters Harmonica Ensemble, with Miss Jan Gibson (songs); Mr Ernest Rogers (songs); Messrs Dave Christensen and H. T. Davis ‘cornet duets); Mr Rodney Pankhurst (pianoforte solos and accompaniments); Mr Robert Allison (songs). Guests of honour included:— Professor L. W. McCaskill and Mrs McCaskill; Brigadier J. T. Burrows and Mrs Burrows; Captain J. N. Allan and Mrs Allan; the president of the Christchurch branch of the R.S.A. (Mr A. S. Farrar) and Mrs Farrar: the president of the women’s section of the R.S.A. (Mrs H. A. Bishop); the president of the former-service-women’s branch of the R.S.A. (Miss M. Rae); Mr H. G. Gilpin and Mrs Gilpin; and Mrs M. B. Cook.
