MELBOURNE. October 21.

Early summer heat waves sent temperatures sky-high in many parts of eastern and southern Australia yesterday. Queensland and New South Wales had a continuation of their most trying spring weather for years, and Victoria and South Australia shared their discomfort as mcrcuries topped the lOOdcg, mark in several places in the four States.

At Oodnadatta and Marree in South Australia, it was Uldeg. and Urandanglc in Queensland and Adelaide had 109dcg. The hottest place in Victoria was Mildura with lOldeg. while Melbourne, with 88deg, had its hottest October day since 1944.
