NEW ROAD RACE RECORD

Wellington-Palmerston North Event

(New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Oct. 20. Riding for most of the journey with the assistance of a strong tail wind, C. Herbert, of Auckland, established a new record for the Wellington-Palmerston North professional road cycling race yesterday. Herbert covered the journey in 3hr 41min 39sec. to better the previous record by 20min 21sec. The first 10 placings were: W W. Papesh (Auckland), 4hr lOmin 37sec, 1; D. Swanston (Christchurch), 4hr 2min 43sec, 2; A. Waite (New Plymouth), 4hr 7min 43sec, 3; R. T Smith (Auckland), 3hr 48min 37sec. 4: T. Moyes (Christchurch), 3hr 43min 5: L- Chapman (New Plymouth). 3hr ~9min 37sec, 6; M. Cossey (Auckland), 3hr 49min 37sec, 7; W Pratney (Auckland). 3hr 50min 43sec, 8: R. Dawson (Christchurch), 3hr 46mm 37sec, 9; G. GloVer (Auckland). 4hr 2min lsec, 10.
