TRADE POST IN LONDON
Government Appoints Mr G. Hope <New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON. October 20. Mr Gordon Hope, assistant secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, has been appointed senior trade commismissioner and commercial counsellor for the office of the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London. He will be replacing Mr J. B. Prendergast, who will return to New Zealand early next year. Mr Hope will be responsible for the trade promotion and trade relation activities of the department in the United Kingdom and the Continent and will leave for England about mid-December. He will be accompanied by his wife and two children.
Mr Hope holds the degree of master of commerce and the diploma of public administration. London, and is a qualified accountant. He received his education at Wellington College. Victoria University College, and London University. He joined the Treasury Department in 1926 and, in 1937, was seconded for duty with the High Commissioner’s office. London, returning in 1940. In 1946. he headed a mission in the Pacific area to purchase surplus American aviation equipment.
Mr Hope was appointed chief investigating and advisory officer to the Department of Industries and Commerce in 1948. second assistant-secretary in 1953, and an assistant secretary in 1956. Earlier this year, he was a member of the trade mission to the United Kingdom.
