70 Attend Reunion
The anniversary of the Battle of Britain was commemorated by former W.A.A.F.’s and a number of serving airwomen of the R.N.Z.A.F, at the annual reunion! of the Blue Beret Club on Satur-i day evening. -About 70 guests I attended the buffet dinner, which was held at the Sign of the i Takehe. They came from as far! afield as Nelson, Timaru, andCheviot and spent much time re-, newing old friendships and exchanging news. Under the groined ceiling of , kauri, which formerly made thei decking of the old Hurunui bridge I the lounge and dining rooms were bright!v decorated with bowls of daffodils, scarlet japonica, pot palms, and ferns.
Good wishes were received from many parts of New Zealand. Guests included the patron (Lad' - Clark-Hall). Mrs T. J. de Lange wife of Group Captain T. W. de Lange, commanding officer. R.N.Z.A.F. station. Wigram: Mrs J. R. Maling, wife of the president of the Christchurch branch of the Air League; Mrs H. S: Feast, wife of the Town Clerk. Mrs L. G. Merrin. wife of the president of the Air Force Association* Miss Mary McLean, a member of the Christchurch City Council, and Section Officers T. Skelton and I. Williams, serving airwomen at Wigram. The leader of a group of girls from Kati Otautahi Maori Girls’ Club, Miss P. Kamo, presented a programme of Maori songs with actions and guitar accompaniment.
The accompanist for a sing-song was Mrs Dorothy Steele. Mrs I. I. Hawkings played the cymbals. Guests and members were welcomed by the president of the Christchurch section of the Blue Beret Club (Mrs M. Williamson). The committee responsible for the reunion was: the president. Mrs M. Williamson: vice-presi-dent, Mrs P. Thurstin: secretary. Mrs N Bruce: committee. Mesdames V. McDonnell, M. Randall Z. Lennon, B. Amos, I. Neale B. Dellow. D. Hall, H. Horsfall, and Miss J. Weir.
Many members joined in the church parade at the Christchurch Cathedral yesterday morning Before the service wreaths were placed at the Cenotaph on behalf of the Canterbury former W.A.A.F.’s and the Blue Beret Club, by Mrs Williamson and Mrs Bruce. nn
