Jubilee Celebrations

The Opawa Lawn Tennis Club, which was founded in 1908. began He eolden jubilee season on Saturday, when opening day for this year was held at the club’s courts Mr C. N. Franklin, president of the club, and Mrs FrankUn welcomed the guests, who included Mr H. R. Lake. M.P., and Mrs Lake; Mr David Martin, the official representative of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association: Mr S. W. Hale, official representative of the Canterbury Junior Lawn Tennis Association: Mr Geoffrev Ollivier and Mr W. D. Rawlings (Wellington), a club vice-president.
Other speciallv-invited guests were the Rev. R. O. Williams, vicar of St. Mark’s Church, and Mrs Williams: Mrs H. F. Polhill; Mrs H. Smith, secretary of Risingholme Community Centre: Dr. D. E. Hansen. M ; ss Mams Saunders. Mr and Mrs R. G. Thomson. Mr and Mrs W. D. Moss. Mesdames Derisley Wood. M. Tavlor, Carlson Holmes. W. R. Robinson. W. J. K Averill, and A. Fergus. Mrs Franklin wore a black suit, patterned in pink, with matching hat and accessories. Mrs Lake chose a grey suit worn with an emerald green hat and black accessories. Mrs Franklin was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs B. Johnstone, captain of the women’s club. Mrs R. Elcock. of the Becken-ham-Huntsburv Garden Club, arranged attractive bowls of flowers on the tea table.
In the evening about 200 members and friends attended a dance to celebrate the opening of the jubilee season. Many private parties were held before the dance.
