Fendalton Seat
Sir.—Mr J. T. Watts has had heavy responsibilities over the last few years, and a tough job trying to please everyone, which I every honest man knows is impossible. If he wants to contest an easier seat, good luck to him. Mr Connelly changed from St, Albans to Riccarton although he was not a member of Parliament at the time I can’t see much difference. —Yours, etc., VOTE. August 29, 1957.
Sir, —The fault is not with the politician but the system. How much research is . given to th? fuller scope and efficient working of democracy in our midst, rather than its use as a political chessboard for -party politics? We complain of the terrific cost of negative attitudes in international affairs yet here is our primary solution. Perhaps the division of New Zealand into five equal population containments with 15 members proportionally elected (local needs being integrated) would give the democratic votei a wider choice in selecting neces sary qualifications of modern representation.—Yours, etc., INTRINSIC RIGHT OF RECALL. August 29, 1957.
