N.S.W. Beats N.Z. Country Team

(N.Z Press Association—Copyright I (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 18. New South Wales beat the touring New Zealand country hockey team two goals to one today in a hard, interesting game. The New Zealanders surprised their opponents, who were this year’s State champions, and held them to a 1-0 lead at half-time. In the second half, there was no score, but New South Wales was awarded a penalty goal for an infringement by the New Zealand backs. New Zealand played good hockey, but was unable to score because of the excellent goalkeeping of R. Andersoir who toured New Zealand for New South Wales last year. Outstanding players for New Zealand were J. Tyson (goal keeper), F. R. Price (captain), who was solid as centre-half, breaking up many attacks, and the forwards, R. Weetman, G. Brown, and D. Dunning. The New South Wales goal was scored by the centre forward, R. Thorpe.
