MISS P. GOULD INJURED
Set-Back To Games Training (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. July 30. A serious set-back to her preparations for next year’s British Empire Games in Cardiff has been suffered by the Olympic backstroke swimmer, Phillipa Gould. She is a patient in the Middlemore Public Hospital at Auckland with a fracture of the right leg. Miss Gould, who Is 16. slipped during a gymnasium class at St. Cuthbert’s College, where she is a sixthform pupil, nil Friday. Her father, Mr P. L. Gould, says she will probably be in hospital for 10 to 14 days, and it will be at least 10 weeks before she is able to resume training. Miss Gould’s coach, Mr Jack Lyons. is hopeful that the form shown by his pupil in winter training will carry her over until she can "get back in the water.” Her recent swimming times were up to and better than last year’s training times, said Mr Lyons.
"She has been doing a programme of calisthenics fo*- some time, and has been swimming for the last six weeks,” he added.
