fN.Z Preu Asso«anon_CoT>vngnn LONDON, July 29. The honorary director of the Anti-Slavery Society, Mr C. W. W. Greenidge, told the aociety’s annual meeting in London today that slavery existed in Japan. Mr Greenidge said the society had discovered this in the last year. Slavery in one form or another still existed in Arabia, the Far East, and in certain parts of Africa and Latin America, he said. Mr Greenidge said: "I saw an article last January in the; ‘Manchester Guardian* by a correspondent in Japan quoting statistics issued by the Japanese Minister of Labour. “According to these statistics, 20,000 persons had been sold in a 12 month period, and of these 80 per cent, had gone into prostitution. “I called at the Japanese Embassy in London to find out whether they could confirm the information. "Their repiy was that they could not vouch for the authenticity; of the information, but they could riot deny it either," he said.
