DR. F. A. BEIT

(New Zealana Press Association) NELSON, July 14. Doctor Francis Arnot Bett, of Nelson, died on Saturday at the age of 83. He had practised his profession in Nelson *for nearly 50 years.

As a hobby, Dr. Bett was a collector and authority on early Nelson provincial history. Born at Tapanui in Otago, he attended Otago Boys’ High School and z later entered Otago '■ University npedical school. Graduating in 1901, he went to England to study at St. Bartholomew’s, London, obtaining his M.R.C.S. and L.R.C.P. (London). He was later house surgeon at Timaru and Christchurch hospitals and in 1904 moved to Nelson hospital as medical superintendent; Returning to the Christchurch hospital he was acting medical, superintendent before leaving to enter private practice in Nelson. His wife, Jessie, died last year.
