HALKETT WATER RACE

The chairman of the Paparua County Council (Mr C. A. Campion) said yesterday that he hoped readers of “The Press,” who read an article yesterday morning on the tour of inspection by the council, did not think that a reference to the intake of the Halkett water race being erected “in 1940“ was intended by the councillor who supplied the information.

The information was given while the dam at the intake was being inspected. This, he said, was erected in 1940. The original intake was erected by the Selwyn County Council in the late 1800 s he said.
