1956-57
Revenue from taxation in 195657 was the highest ever recorded with a total of £253.000.000. according to a report bv the Government Statistician (Mr G. E Wood). This amount was represented by £173.000.000 revenue to the Consolidated Fund, by £62.000,000 revenue to the Social Security Fund, and £18,000.000 revenue to the National Roads Fund.
The average taxation a head of population was £ll5 4s lOd. and of this, direct taxes on income accounted for £72 16s 2d. The latest taxation statistics could be shown as a percentage of national income for 1956-57. since the statistics for National Income would not be available until about August. In 1955-56. however, although total taxation I and taxation a head of population increased, taxation decreased
as a percentage of National Income.

The Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr S. W. Smith) has been renominated as National Party candidate for Hobson. There were no other National Party nominations for this seat.
REMUERA SEAT
Mr Algie Nominated (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 8. The Minister of Education (Mr R. M. Algie) will stand again for Remuera as the National Party candidate at the General Election this year. His was the only name submitted before nominations closed this evening.
