CURRENT NOTES
The North American Club held a dinner-dance at “The Four Ships” on Saturday evening to celebrate Canada’s Dominion Day and the United States Independence Day, both of which had fallen a few days before. The president (Mr C. L. Shields) welcomed members and guests. Appropriate decorations had been arranged by the women’s committee of the club.
Miss Rita Opie, a former principal of the Church Missionary Society’s school for girls in Kotte, Ceylon, gave a talk on Ceylon at a recent meeting of the Christchurch High School Old Girls’ Association. Miss Opie, who is an old girl of the school, was welcomed by the president (Miss I. F. Milnes).
Mr R. R. Beauchamp gave a talk on his visit to Antarctica, including a flight over the South Pole, to members of. the Christchurch branch of the League for the Hard of Hearing. Mr Beauchamp also showed coloured slides of Antarctica.
