NEW PROTECTIVE MASK—This United States soldier is wearing the Army’s new type of protective mask which eliminates the bulky canister of other models, and protects the wearer against chemical, biological, and radiological warfare. The mask, now undergoing tests, is expected to give United States troops a high degree of protection for long periods and the maximum of comfort. Inhaled air is filtered through pads of gas-erosol material in face-piece cavities. The air intake is centred under the nose with exhaust units on both sides.
