(New Zealand Press Association)

The 16,707-ton oil tanker Scherzo is expected to sail from Auckland to Wellington unassisted.

The tanker berthed at Auckland la t Monday after losing her rudder 1200 miles out in the Pacific and coming to port with a jury rudder.

“It is now proposed to fit the ship with a temporary rudder,” said the master, Captain Tryge Thorbjornsen, today. If this is decided upon the job will take from a week to a fortnight. The tanker was due to leave Wellington tomorrow.

The Union Steam Ship Company's tug Taioma, en route from Wellington to assist the tanker in her journey south, was informed today that she was not required and she put back to Wellington.
