Farmers Support Town Hall Plan
North Canterbury Federated Farmers, who previously gave their support in principle to the building of a town hall in Christchurch, yesterday received a request to appoint a representative on the Canterbury Progress League’s town hall promotion committee.
“My committee is much encouraged by your expression of support for our endeavours,” said the committee convener (Mr Peter B. Watts) in a circular letter received by the executive. It was proposed, “with the ready cooperation of his Worship the Mayor,” to call an early meeting of “leaders from all walks of city life” to form a committee of 100 or so distinguished citizens to give added weight to the cause.” The farmers decided to appoint Mr R. H. Mackenzie. There were no other nominations.
