Two Injured When Boiler Explodes

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, June 26. One man was seriously injured, and another was fairly extensively burned, when a new boiler exploded in the basement of the Auckland Hotel this morning. The man badly hurt is James Hartley, a pipe fitter, of 146 Calliope road, Stanley Bay. Roland Gaffey, a porter at the hotel, was treated at the Auckland Hospital for burns and. shock and sent home. Mr Hartley is in a critical condition at the hospital, with burns. He was painting a steel door on the boiler, and the explosion blew this open, striking him a severe blow on the side of the head, and throwing him a few feet against a heavy concrete pillar.
