Two Men Fined At Lyttelton

The theft of a jar of sweets from a Lyttelton milk bar on Thursday evening resulted in the appearance at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday of two’ members of the crew of the overseas ship Sydney Star. Joseph John McGarry was charged before Messrs F. G Briggs and A. B. P. Large. Justices of the Peace, •with stealing a quantity of sweets, valued at 2s. the property of Kreamy Milk Bar, Ltd- He was further charged with using obscene language in a public place. He pleaded guilty to both charges. George Albert Davies, aged 23. an oiler, pleaded guilty to stealin* a jar of sweets, valued at £3 ss. the property of Kreamy Milk Bar Ltd- and to having wilfully destroyed a jar. valued at £1 ss. Sergeant E. Morrissey told the Court that the two men. with several others from the ship, entered the milk bar at a busy time While the Assistant was occupied in another part of the shop. Davies put the jar of sweets under his coat and he and McGarry made off. Constable C. A. G. Morrison gave chase.
