FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT

Situation:- A ridge of high pressure persists over northern New Zealand as a trough of low pressure over the Tasman Sea moves towards the South Island.

Forecast:— West Coast: Winds from a northerly quarter, fresh in exposed areas; overcast and mild, with periods of rain Outlook: changeable, showery weather. Nelson: Westerlies, fresh outside Tasman Bay, otherwise light or moderate variable winds; showers in the western ranges; otherwise fair to cloudy, mild weather Outlook: some showers.

Marlborough, except Kaikoura coast: Mainly fresh north-west winds; mainly fair to cloudy, mild weather except for scattered showers about the ranges. Outlook’occasional showers.

Kaikoura coast and Canterbury: Moderate northeasterlies on the coast and fresh north-westerlies in exposed inland areas; rain in the alps, otherwise fair, mild weather but much high cloudiness. Outlook: some scattered rain early, becoming mainly fair.
