RURI-DECANAL FESTIVAL

Mid-Canterbury Function

A Mid-Canterl?ury Ruri-Decanal Festival, the first of its kind, was held at the St. Stephen’s Church. Ashburton. It was organised by the members of the Mothers’ unions and young wives’ groups There was a large gathering in the church for a Holy Communion service, when the vicar (the Rev. J. Froud) was the celebrant, and the Ven. Archdeacon S. E. Woods, of Sydenham, was the Preacher In the afternoon, after a short mothers’ union service in the church, members adjourned to the parish hall, where Mrs A. K. Warren, the diocesan president, gave an address. She explained the functions of the diocesan organisation and how every method was employed to make it really efficient. She emphasised the need for members to make “homemaking,” in the best sense, their full vocation. Mrs A. I. Miller (enrolling member for Ashburton) introduced many members of the diocesan executive. Mrs T. Gudsell (enrolling member for Tinwald) thanked Mrs Warren for her address.

Mothers’ union literature was on display, and the exhibits from the mothers’ union bay at the diocesan exhibition held in the Cathedral last year were shown.
