El Khobar Starts Work In U.S.
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) HOLLYWOOD PARK (California), May 1 The New Zealand horse. El Khobar, had his first real work-out on American soil today. He ran three furlongs in the good time of 38 2-ssec. W. J. (Buddy) Hirsch, the trainer, who is handling El Khobar, said he was well satisfied with the progress of the New Zealand thoroughbred in California. “He has become completely acclimatised,” Hirsch said. “He has been eating like a champion since his arrival on April 19.” The Hollywood Park meeting will open on May 9, but it is not expected El Khobar will start in a race for several weeks. He has been nominated for the 100,000 dollars (about £44,600) Hollywood Gold Cup on July 13.
