TOURIST FIRM’S SCHEME

“Tc enable senior members of the staff of the head office in London to gain knowledge and experience, a scheme has been started so that five members can ‘chase each other round the world,’ ’’ said Mr J. T. Buckley, a junior executive of Thomas Cook and Son, Ltd., London, who is on a fortnight’s tour of New Zealand.

“Before arriving in New Zealand I spent one year in Australia, and from here I will go to Bombay, for one year also,” he said. Because of the disturbances in the Middle East, the number of areas visited has decreased to five These are Australia and New Zealand. India, South Africa, North America and the Continent. Each of the five selected men spends one year in each country.

“Besides discussing the office organisation with the general managers, sightseeing tours are taken so that we may be able to describe and personally recommend places to prospective tourists,” said Mr Buckley. “A similar scheme is in operation in the branches of the London headquarters. However, instead of the person spending a year each in several countries, they spend a few months in each specialised department in the office in London,” said Mr Buckley.
