Swimming Murray Garretty’s Surf Title
(N.Z. Press Association Copyright) (Rec. 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, April 21. The Olympic distance swimmer, Murray Garretty, at Bondi yesterday won his sixth Australian championship this year. Garretty won the national senior surf title, feature event of the jubilee Australian surf championships.
Last February he won five titles at the Australian swimming championships at Canberra. Garretty’s win yesterday was at his first start in the senior surf title race. He won the junior title at Wollongong two years ago. Representing the South Australian club, Henley, he swam strongly yesterday to beat the New South Wales champion. Barry Lumsdaine (freshwater) and the Maroubra swimmer, John Rodgers.
