The Chief of the New Zealand Naval Staff (Rear-Admiral J. E. H. Mcßeath) will leave by air on Friday to attend a conference of Commnwealth chiefs of naval staffs and Royal naval command-ers-in-Chief and flag officers, which will be held in London in late April and early May. On his way to Britain, Rear-Admiral Mcßeath will confer at Honolulu with Admiral Felix B. Stump, U.S.N. (Commander-in-Chief, Pacific). On his return flight he will have discussions at Singapore and Melbourne.—(P.A.)
Major A. M. Sutton yesterday took up the position of chief infantry instructor at Burnham Military Camp. Major Sutton has been at Army headquarters in Wellington. He succeeds Major D. Neale, of the Irish Fusiliers, who has taken his discharge from the Imperial Army in New Zealand and retired in Dunedin. Trade union secretaries and organisers met yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr H. G. Kilpatrick, retiring secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union, and Mr James Sturrock, retiring Canterbury organiser for the New Zealand Engineers’ and Related Trades Union. Presentations were made by Mr R. H.. McDonald. A former Canterbury University College student, Mr W. Colin Durning, of Timaru, has been appointed lecturer in basic dental sciences at the University of Otago dental school. Mr Durning has been studying in Chicago for the last seven years.
