CAMBRIDGE CLUB

Easy Win For Moon Crest (New Zealand Press Associative) CAMBRIDGE, April 14. The Trelawney Easter Trial at Cambridge on Saturday was won brilliantly by Moon Crest in Imin 24sec for the seven furlongs. Moon Crest overhauled the pacemaker, Belle Time, in the straight, to win going away. Tups was a close third followed by Drowsing. The first and second favourite on the win-and-place machine, and a popular fancy for the Easter Handl, cap, at Ellerslie next week. Great Rose, took no part in the race. The closest she could be got to the starting stalls was about half a furlong behind, and she was there dismounted, when .the other 16 riml ners left. Her trainer, W. W. Townsend, then led her back to the birdcage to be unsaddled. Altogether, Great Rose carried £5014 in bets. On the win-and-place machine, she had £3776 invested on her out of a pool of £14.294, and there were 4952 tickets (5s unit) on her chance in the double. Belle Time was also disinclined to enter the starting stalls, and Drowsing was unaccountably allowed to stand behind while efforts were being made to get the other two into line. The trainers, W. W. Townsend (Great Rose) and V. B. Johnson (Belle Time), were told afterwards that unless there was improvement in the barrier behaviour of Great Rose and Belle Time, both would be liable for recommendation to the schooling list. Belle Time is also a candidate for the Easter Handicap. The successful double combination, Arva and Moon Crest, paid £62 5s for £l. The totalisator handled £142.535 10s. of which £61,762 10s was oncourse. Results:— FENCOURT HACK HANDICAP, of £280; about one mile and threequarters.—2, 3 CHOW CHOW (4) 9-7 V. L.
