WAVERLEY CLUB STEEPLECHASE
Narrow Win For Million Dollar (New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI, April 14. The six-year-old Gay Boy gelding Million Dollar, a winner over hurdles at the recent Manawatu meeting, made a successful first start as a steeplechaser when he got up in the last few strides to beat Pirate in the Waverley Steeplechase on Saturday. The club’s autumn meeting was held in fine, warm weather, and the track was firm and fast.
Foy led from end to end to win the Besley Memorial Handicap, first leg of the double, and Pandex completed a double worth £55 Is 6d for £1 when she won the open sprint, the Wairoa Handicap. There was a good attendance and the totalisator handled £33,258 compared with £26,105 10s last year, an increase of £7152 10s. Results:—
