Limits On Japanese Pearl Fishing
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, April 11. Limits would be placed on the activities of Japanese pearlers operating off the northern coast of Australia this year, said the Minister of Primary Industry (Mr W. McMahon) today. This was to conserve pearl shell resources in certain areas.
The pearlers this year would operate under the provisional regime set up by the Governments of Australia and Japan. It was a temporary arrangement pending a decision by the International Court on Japan’s challenge to the validity in international law of the Australian Pearl Fiaheriea Act.
