PARADE OF HOMES COMPETITION
Five Placings Announced
The Pjarade of Homes committee has announced that the house built in the Wayside street display by Owen C. Mitchell was the most popular choice of those who voted in the committee’s competition to select houses offering the best value for money. This house, of 1100 square feet, L-shaped with a terrace and iron balustrade and built in concrete masonry, is priced at £3OOO. The four other most popular houses were, in order of preference: house number 13, built by John W. Blance, Ltd. (£3270, including paths and fencing); number 5, built by Mr John C. Bills (£2910 without paths); number 6, built by E. King, Ltd. (£2550, including paths); number 2, built by the Richardson Construction Company (£3150, including paths).
Insurance assessors who inspected the houses after the parade closed on Sunday found that damage to the houses done by the estimated 100,000 visitors to the parade was negligible. The only serious loss was the theft of radio equipment worth £ll2 on Friday night or early on Saturday morning.
Most of the carpeting over which visitors walked was covered, but 6ne entrance hall carpet which was not protected showed no sign cif wear or loss of colour. It did gather a lot of dust but this was soon cleaned out. .A few marks were left on wallpapers in s ome houses.
The Manuka Boy Scout group vhich undertook to dispose of he booklets giving details of the louses had sold all of the 10,000 opies by last Friday afternoon.
