Highest Wool Price For Six Years

The average price realised by wool sold at the third main sale in Christchurch on February 18 and 20 this year was 62.774 d per lb—the highest average price for a Christchurch main sale since the 145.55 d paid at the second sale in the 1950-51 season. This price is 14.5 d above the average for the same sale last year. The net weight of wool sold was 15,447,4661 b, compared with 16,041,0271 b last year. The slight drop in weight was more than offset by the increase in price and the total cheque rose from £3,224,086 to £4,040,414. The 47,168 bales sold by the six woolbrokering firms in Christchurch averaged £B5 13s 3d.
